Hi guys,
Please don't flame me, I did search but didn't find anything helpfull.
I have an 01 Bagger with a cv carb. The carb is jetted for open exhaust and a big sucker on a stock TC88. I just finished a S&S 97inch big bore with 10.25:1 pistons bigboyz street ported 2006 heads, S&S 551 cams and a Dyna tech ignition. What are good starting jet sizes and needle clip position for my carb with this setup?
Thanks for your help,
Bam

yeah, something like that.
if you go to nightrider.com / bike tech / cv carb
there are tuning and modding tips.
a few tuning runs will get you very close.
and from there you can dial in.
it is really easy to make the top end too rich by combination of the needle taper and jet size.
in my case it showed as less than optimal MPG which I was able to sort out with a number of highway speed runs.
replacing the phillips heads with allens makes for easier float bowl drops and just a couple of small tools and a mirror can help you re-tune at the roadside.

alot of us use the sportster needle in big twins as part of the "1990 CV carb performance $25 tune up"
which was sportster needle, hi and low jets and drilling the slide.
the taper of the sportster needle is sharper.
if you have a dynojet/yost or other 'tuning kit" this advice may not work for you.
i considered those kits junk and a way to remove $100 from riders when $25 would do.

I went from a 48 to 46 slow jet and a 185 to 190 main. AF screw is out 2.25 turns. still using dynojet needle. I no longer smell fuel while getting on the throttle, pulls much harder. I'm ordering the sporster needle and tring that next. I may have to go to a 195 main also. I did get on little carb hick-up when slowing down to a near stop then getting back on it. Any ideas on the hick-up?
Thanks for all the help,
Bam
