Default Tire size

I know this has had to be asked a ton but I'm new to here and couldn't find it. I just bought an 05 Road King Classic that needs a new back tire. I was wondering if I could fit a 180 on the back on the factory wheels without issues. If not could y'all let me know how wide I could go on it. Thanks

Nope, not on that rim.Think the biggest would be a 140-160.

I am thinking a 140 is about it on a '05 without minor modifications.

Thanks guys! Anybody know what I would have to change to make an 09 or newer wheel work back ther so I could do the fatter tire? I see factory take off wheels online all the time for not that much, plus I would like to get away from the current wire wheels.

On an 05 you can put a 150 on a 4.25" rim. If you want to put a 180 you will need to change the swingarm at the very least.

try a Dunlop Elite 3 MU90B16 Rear Tire its about 140 but you will be saprized how nice it looks with your bike and it handles way way beter than like a 402 .

some her say there getting up to 20,000 miles wear out of them .

i got one from jake wilson .com deliverd for $133

There are three restrictions on tyre width: rim width (150 is max for most brands on a stock 3" rim); clearance with the drive belt; rear fender width. If you have the stock 1 1/2" wide belt, the max size you can confidently fit is a 140, but be aware that fitted width is different between brands. If you change to a later spec narrow 1 1/8" belt you can get in a 150.

There is a thread in here about fitting an 09 rear wheel, but it involves major surgery. The hub is wider than yours, so the swingarm has to be modified or replaced, plus lots more.

mu 90,a few have used a 160 but that size tire is for a 3.5 inch wheel your 3 inch wheel will pull the sidewall in just enough so it will fit,but not recommended.
