Default Speedo Install Question

Hey guys, my buddy has a 2006 RK; someone vandalized his bike. One of the things broken was the speedo, looks like they smashed something down into it. Anyways hes looking for another speedo on ebay. He was wondering if he bought one with 15000 miles, if it would reset to what his bike had on it, which is 6600. Is the mileage stored in the ECU or something or will his bike show the extra miles? Thanks i told him i would ask around.

i swapped out gauges on my 07 ultra classic to white faced street glide gauges. the mileage on the gauge is what it read not the mileage from the bike. i would have to assume the 06 RK would be the same way. If ins is paying he can get a new gauge and the mileage can be set before he puts something like 100 miles on it.

You won't be able to reset the mileage on a used speedo.

When you order a new one, the factory programs the mileage for you.
That is one of the questions they ask when you order.

Once it leaves the factory, your out of luck getting the mileage changed.
A dealer can't (or won't, not sure which) do it.

I just purchased a Harley Combo Speedo/Tach, and when installed at my first 1K service, it was set at the dealer to the current mileage. I believe there was a plug in (at least on a new bike) that they plug it in and it updated a new speedo to the current mileage.
