no need for any special tools. if youre worried about it, sharpie mark the axle cam position and put it back to that mark

So far it looks like the best way for me to get the wheel off is to jack up the bike on my lift. Loosen the right side muffler and push it to the side so the axle can clear it on the way down. Slide my other jack in to hold up the wheel. Disconnect both shocks. Lower the wheel. Remove the axle and other hardware. Remove the wheel. Seems simple enough.

Also you might want to block up the front. Wheel so when you take the weight off the rear it will remain steady.

The axle is in direct line with the mufflers. I don't want to remove the mufflers. So the only way to get the axle out is to lower the wheel so that the axle is completely accessible from both sides. With the shocks disconnected the rear fork/wheel can drop down to allow access. This seems to be the way it is done in the HD shops.

Once the axle is below the mufflers I can just use my 1/2" torque wrench and a 36mm socket.

OK I got ya . I have Vance & Hines big radius on my bike so I didn't have to deal with any mufflers, real easy job
