So I'm looking at some fairings....
I'm considering one of the aftermarket fairings for my Road King Classic. I've reviewed the websites for the Dragonfly, Hoppes, and Corbin fairings and looked at every post on this forum and will be narrowing down my choice in the next few days. For those of you who have gone this route, can you give me some additional feedback? Specifically....
1. Did the fairing mount to the stock windshield rubber receivers, or did you need to replace it with something supplied by the fairing manufacturer? It would be nice to be able to swap the new fairing with the stock windshield from time to time.
2. How does the fairing compare with the stock windshield with respect to ride comfort, handling, and stability?
3. How close to the factory HD fairing does the aftermarket unit look? I know that the Corbin is significantly different, but I get the impression that the goal of the Hoppes and Dragonfly was to be pretty identical to the factory fairing.
4. My bike is Vivid Black in color. How close does the factory gel coat or paint match the Vivid Black on the bike? I'm wondering about my need to paint over the gel coat.
5. What about wiring options for the radio? Did you wire into the left accessory switch on the nacelle, or directly into the factory harness? How difficult was this?
6. They all seem to be about the same price - anything else I should know about making a choice?
7. Pictures! Pictures! Pictures!
Thanks!

Have you looked at Dead center fairings?
www.deadcentercycles.com/
They are lockable and come with a marine grade sound system. I saw them at the Laughlin River Run last year and the workmanship is first rate.
I will be ordering one this year at Laughlin. They will color match to any HD color.

Hey John.....
I went with the Dead Center Cycles and am extremely happy with it. When I bought mine he wasn't offering the stereo at that time so I purchased and installed my own. Made my own wiring harness, installed a power adapter for heated clothing. You can take a look at the pics in my photo gallery. However, I now have a smoked windshield, hard saddlebags and installed 3 gauges in the fairing; a larger HD tach with an oil temp on one side and oil pressure on the other. Again, I made my own quick connect harness. In regards to the color......the fairing came gelcoated and it did require a little work but again this was back towards the begining of him starting things up if I'm not mistaken. I do all my own paint work and the DuPont Super Jet Black matches the Harley Vivid Black dead on. Mine came with a 7" windshield which is about 1 inch shorter that the stock height RKC windshield. The entire fairing mounts on the stock windshield mounting points and I have no problems with vibration at all. I also like the fact that it is lockable to the bike. With the setup I have I can remove / install the fairing in about 1 minute. I have to admit though, I have taken the bike out once without the fairing from the time I installed it. The tunes are just too nice and the cruising comfort is outstanding.
Let me know if you have any other questions and I'll do what I can to help out.

same thing here....i really like to buy hoppe or dragonfly or deadcenter...
today i re think again about my decision....totally i have to spent about $2300 (total with shipping to my country, tax etc)....
why not i just sell my RK, and then buy an FLHX or FLHT...?
Spent a little more, but get satisfaction fully with FLHX or FLHT........so now im in the process find some one with ultra or SG want trade in with my RK....but this just my opinion....

Looking Good Cohiba_Joe. Pastor John i think all the after Markets are going to be almost the same i installed a DragonFly on my 95 Heritage and like Cohiba_Joe said once you get the Fairing with Music on you will not be taken it off the that Often, the Dragon Fly System is Very Nice and Loud. I beleive all of them come with the Gel Coat which doesn't match anything, you will have to paint it but what you want to remember is which everone you choose make sure it's shields are interchangable with Harley's Shields. I know that DragonFlys are interchangeable with Harley because i bought 3 different height sheilds when i had my old Bike and they Worked Great.

Check out the Dead Center Cycles fairing, www.deadcentercycles.com, can't say enough about them. I have mine and its awesome, great quality, great service. They've upgraded the radio from what's on the site too. You'll love it!
