Default Fuel Gauge issue

Does anyone know of a way to adjust the fuel gauge, or float (assuming there is one) in the tank for the fuel gauge? It doesn't matter if I'm running around in the city two-up getting 36 MPG or if I'm cruising on the highway along getting 43 MPG, pretty much at 160(ish) Miles on the trip meter, my low fuel indicator goes on. Today it happened, and I was by a gas station, and was only able to put in about 3.74 gal of fuel into the tank. It's driving me nuts.

Thanks,
mikebaby

I've never had a fuel gauge on a motorcycle worth a mention. They all sucked. Even on all three HDs I've owned previously. Best thing you can do is know your bike. It drives my wife crazy because I'll ride for an hour with the low fuel indicator on!!

Kind of curious if you can fix it too. I've always just lived it.

While this may be a viable work around, I would raise hell with HD and not stop until I got an acceptable answer. You aren't the only one to find issue with HD fuel gauges and wont be the last.

I've seen this topic quite a bit in the five months I've been on this forum. My own opinion on HD fuel gauges leans towards additional fluff that helps sales, since based on your post and myriad others - they are no where near accurate and therefor, useless.

This keeps coming up - it's driving ME nuts! In the past we had a reserve position on the gas tap, which told us we could carry on riding with around a gallon in reserve. Now we have a light that comes on when we have around a gallon in reserve. What's the problem?!

If you want to adjust when the light comes on, the float inside the tank is on a piece of thin wire. You just have to get in there and play with it until you are happier.

Go to the 40 second mark and you'll learn how it's done

Fuel gauge, dual trip odometers, warning lights and to think this is how we used to do it, some of you guys crack me up.

I will allways remember that time I turned the fuel tap onto reserve and didn't put it back to normal before I filled up and yep I had to walk once the tank was dry.
We are so spoilt nowadays.

Lmao with EricD10563 .....yup again its a Harley, that's why we love em. Here's what i did. 6 Gallon Tank X 30 mpg= 180 miles. Set my trip odometer to 0 when i fill up, When I hit 180 Miles I start looking for a gas station, At 210 I really start looking , At 240 I hope theres on at the bottom of the next hill. Good luck with that Gas Gauge.

Like many/most, I learned to rely on the trip odo years ago. The fuel gage on my RK is hard to look at but the warning light and indication seems to be in-tune with my expectations based on the trip odo.

On my old '06 Road Glide,I bent the float arm to adjust the gauge.Fuel light would come on around 170 miles. The newer models may be different as far how the fuel light works.
