Finally fired up the bike today after doing the SE255 cam install a few weeks back. A lot more top end noise then with the stocks cams. No ticking or lifter chatter but it's certainly louder or maybe it was because it was running in the garage.

I did a search and found that it's somewhat normal, so hopefully I can rest easy.....Bike ran for about 10 minutes and nothing exploded, banged or came through the cam chest, so that's a good sign. Going to change the oil, so maybe new oil will quite it down some.

The Beasley Oil Spring kept the oil pressure at around 32 psi after the bike had been idling for the approx 10 minutes. I let it idle that long to let the Rev Perf. EMS get in synch with the new cams.

 

This has nothing to do with the technical aspect of your post but I gotta ask...

How did you wait three weeks to start it up after installing new cams?

I'd be so jazzed to hear it I might actually start it before I even finished LOL.

 

What pushrods and lifters?

 

Subscribed. My ride is noisy enough as it is from the top end so I am interested to hear what would make it louder.

 

More aggressive cam profiles will typically make more noise. I have been fighting a noise issue on my 48 Cams and finally adjusted pushrods to 3 turns and it's pretty good now. 255'S actually have a tighter closing and that will tend to be noisier.

 

SE tapered adjustable's and the stock lifters.

 

When my 255 cams were installed all I noticed was a whole lot more torque and a bike that was much more enjoyable to ride!

 

Nothing to worry about. You'll drive yourself crazy trying to 'fix' a problem that comes with more lift.

I noticed more noise when I went from SE cams to HQ cams. At one point it got worse and when I investigated, one of the new lifters collapsed. Put in a set of stock B lifters and it was back to just slightly annoying.

 

I did new wheels, tires, air filter backing plate, rear shocks, race tech front springs, modified intiminators and a new battery at the same time and some of the parts took longer to come in then I expected.

 

I have about 10,240 miles on my SE 255 cams, been in since I took it home from the HD store. Noise, not a real issue.
The 255 cams are soon to be replaced with TW 222 cams......torque city here I come.
