Touring aids
I got tired of having to change out tires before they were wore out or having to take time off work to get the tires changed because of a pending trip.
I've spent some time on the GoldWing Darksider forum and they all seem to have spare wheels and tires in their garage. The more I thought about it the more I liked the idea. I wanted to get to where if I only had a couple thousand miles left on a tire and had a trip coming up, I could just put a new wheel/tire on and after the trip, put the old one back on and run it till it got too scary to run.
I talked to the wife about it and she really liked the idea. I was thinking about getting some Ultra wheels or even Street Glide wheels off Fleabay, but she wouldn't have anything to do with that. She said if I was going to get spare wheels to get ones off another Ultra Limited. I thought I'd give it a try.
It cost me $830.00, but I got my wheels tonight. They are new dealer take offs and have the bearings and front rotors with them. Can't wait to get the tires to put on them.
I ordered tire irons, rim protectors, bead breaker and dynabeads tonight from Jake Wilson. Figured now that I can do it at my leisure, I'd just go ahead and put the tires on the rims myself and save the $30 to get them mounted and balanced.

I ride between 12,000 and 15,000 miles a year. For the past 10 years rode a GL1800 w/Metzlers. Every spring, new tires, front & rear. May have wasted a few tire miles, but oh so nice to never have to think about tires and just go whenever I feel like it. Am hoping to find a tire combination that will allow me to do the same on my new Ultra.

I just paid $425 for two new Metzeler ME880's mounted and balanced from an indy.
You have two new sets of tires tied up in just the wheels.
You are spending more then you would if you just replaced your old tires 1,000 miles before they were worn out.
Not to mention the extra money spent on tires irons, dyna beads and whatever else.
