I plan on changing the cam chain to gear drive on my '04 Road King,88ci. I was gonna go with a S&S gear conversion and replace the cams also. I see that S&S has many kits to choose from. What kit and cams would be best to install? Are Andrews cams a good product? Thanks.
I heard that the gear drive was more durable than the hyd. set up. I only have 13kmis. on the bike. I bought it last year with 6k mis. I haven't checked the condition of the wear shoes yet. How many miles can you typically go before you have to replace them?
My Andrews 21 cams with the hydraulic tensioners have been fantastic in a 88" motor. Can't say enough good things. If you go gear drive make sure your crank is within specs. I'm sure someone will chime in on the specifics.

Here is a pic of my hyd shoe's at 90k. They are very reliable plus you get a better oil pump and no shimming set up like when you set up gears.

.003 is max and most builders prefer .002 or less. 07+ Hyd spec is .012

Until you upgrade your tensioners I would recommend you make a regular practice of cutting apart your oil filter every service. You will be looking for small pieces of orange plastic.
