School me on the 2009 Electra Glide Standard.
Hi Bagger Guys.
After selling my trusty old Shovel, I have decided to go with something newer. Yep, I'm potentially going to the 09 EGS . Now I know it has the new frame design, and the 96 CI, 6 speed, and 6 gallon tank etc.
What I don't know is much more! Does this bike have any known issues I should be concerned about?
The bike in question has 19,000 miles, good shape. Newer tires , brake pads are good, Comes with lower fairings, lower windshield and the original one. Arlen Ness super sucker & Ness slipons. (the owner said this combo does not need remappe , and is this true?)
Priced at 12K.
Any help from the bagger experts would be greatly appreciated.

No issues that I am aware of, and I have an 09.
A few minor recalls but that happens with every year and if they haven't been done it will still qualify and not cost you anything.
As far as a remap goes it may not, depending on how hot she's runnin.'
That's a smokin" red hot deal!!
You'd better jump on it B-4 someone else does.

Keep the Shovel too ... I've got an 09 FLHTCU and haven't had any problems to speak of. If it's had tires put on it I'm sure that the tech would have checked for bearings at that time. I have the Big Sucker and a set of Rush Slip Ons with the 2" baffles and had an HD Download installed ... I should have had a PCV put on ( after thought ) ... The general consensus is that with an air filter AND muffler change a fatter mixture would be recommended. The 09 far and away a much better scooter than my 1992 FLHTCU.

There are minor concerns for each model year.
Do you get service records for the bike ?
other than that the EG std was the deal bike for over a decade and riders would make them a little "custom".
H-D borrowed the ideas and created then sold the FLHX for about 4k more.
most touring parts will interchange between models, so you can add bolt on stuff pretty easy ( even a tour pak)
lots of guys add a "marine spec" radio, although getting one to work with bar controls is not easy ( biketronics might help with that)
as for tuning, i know stock bikes that needed help ( mine for one) and stage 1 bikes that didn't...so it varies.
If your bike is a California spec bike it may have a cat in the header ( decode the vin).
if you find it is running super lean and pinging all over on the test ride, just walk away as there may be existing damage.
if it runs well, then you win.
pretty good price

what he said with one addition - hawg wired has a true plug and play kit for the radio so simple even I could install it -- a little pricey --

I just put a Biketronics stereo system in my standard, is to simple, sounds great and can still use the controls on the handlebar, whole system was about $500, bought it from Cycle Sounds on the internet, free shipping to. I reccomend upgrading the standard hidden antenna, I also upgraded the speakers from 5.25 to 6.5, was $40 extra but well worth it in my opinion. Standards are great bikes to customize, good luck with it if you get it.
