Default RE: Silverstar Bulbs

I have contacted PIAA direct and they DO NOT make a replacement for the 881H2 lamp. They even recommend staying away from from the the blue lamp because it puts out less light. I can foward the email from PIAA if anyone is interested but I dont know how on here just PM me your email address.
DOG

I have been all over this dark lamp issue with the H3 head light and the 881H2 driving lights ever since I bought my Street Glide. Its like driving with a flash light out front.Just PM me if you want the letter from PIAA on what they say to change out to,

The H3 fit my 05, but you have to get the glued back rubber cap off on the back of the lamp, then you remove the bulb.

The 05 lamps are different than the 06. Even the guys in Parts at the Dealer didn't know that when they sold me the H-3's. And some of the model years are sealed beam.

FYI, the H-3 doesn't fit the 2006. Been there, done that.
On my '06 I had to change the out the stock lense assys which held the 881 bulb for the H-D part number: 6820898 A. They normally sell for $67 or $68 a pair. I picked some new ones up on ebay for $35.oo or so plus shipping, if I remember right!

That was why I cut off the ends from the wiring which connected to the 881 bulbs, had to change to the spade slid on an off terminal lugs for the H-3 bulb converstion with the new lense assys.

I've reciently found out that if you don't want to pop for the H-3 lense assy's from H-D that you can re-use the stock lense assy and upgrade the bulb to a 886 bulb, 50 watt halogen vise the stock 881 of 27 watts.

Sure wish that I'd found that out before hand, could have saved some money in the long run!

I don't know for sure if Sylvinia makes a SilverStar or Ultra SilverStar for the 886 bulb! But others like GE and Phillips of the 50 watt version should be easy to find in the 886 bulb at your local auto parts store.

The 886 doesn't have the 90 deg. bend of the stock 881, and will not fit. I tried it.

Damn I hate that when that happens!

I've got to appologise, I have not researched it, for myself, it was to have been good info from the source that I've obtained it!!

I hope that it has not caused much trouble!

I have two of those cut ends that you show in the picture as well. Mine are from converting over to the H-3's.

Did you convert over to the H-3's?
Ok, here is the real skinny, I've done the research, the 886 bulb is the exact same base and 90* bend as the stock 881. Are you sure that you did get a look at the 886? The 880 is a straight base!

881 = 886, 889, 894, 896, 898 have the same base PGJ13, different wattage. These are single filament bulbs and use as fog light bulbs.

I'll go to AutoZone and look again Thanks for the info, I might have to rethink this. Maybe it was that they didn't have an 886 Silverstar.
