Personally, I'd rather spend the limited time I have RIDING, not changing out windshields (or any other accessories). I use the soft lowers engine guard chaps. Easy on/easy off when the weather changes, and they cut down most of the updrafts. http://www.leadermotorcycle.com/harl...n-rain-guards/

OP, I like the look of a shorter windshield, so normally I run a 6", but on a long trip or when it's spring or fall which means cooler and wetter, I run an 8", both are LRS recurves. On the "I'd rather ride than change windshields", I believe it's probably three minutes top, loosen three screws, slide out windshield, slide in windshield, tighten three screws. That includes putting the one I took off away! I usually do this while I wait for the ol' lady with time to spare.

When it is REALLY cold and I am wearing my Gerbings gear I switch from a skid lid to a modular helmet.

On really cold days I add a second windshield that's attached to a full face helmet.

I have a Memphis Shades fairing, a Klockwerks 6.5" windshield, and an MP 12" windshield. I modified the fairing brackets so I can lower the fairing 3/4".

In the summer, I install the 6.5" windshield, lower the fairing, and angle it backwards (the MP brackets allow you to angle the fairing).

In the winter, I install the 12" windshield on the fairing, raise the fairing back up (3/4" higher), and angle it forward so it sits straight up. I have 'soft' lowers, and heated gloves. (I can ride the 22 miles to work in the mid-teens pretty comfortably). In 'winter' mode, I can look through, or over the top of the windshield by adjusting how much I slouch.

In warmer weather I run a 8" LRS Ultra shield. For the colder season, I switch over to a 10" LRS Ultra shield and add their Hawg Wings. Also switch from a half helmet to a full helmet.

I added a Wind Splitter 10in. last week. I can see over it and it gives me a nice wind free pocket to sit in. I will run it year round.

I believe I've finally got it right. That means to me that I have circulating cooling wind flow for my self, passenger and motor along with cold and rain protection. Finally got the right combination of windshield design and height with different wind deflectors without getting jet streams of hot or cold air blasting at us.
That only took a couple years and several hundred dollars !
I must be getting awfully picky in my old age...lol
