They also have police models that have the most comfortable seat on any like if you ask me. But it is an upright riding position if you dont mind that so much.

Also they make a few different fairings for the Road King that arent that expensive and you can take them on or off in minutes so you can have a detachable plug and play option for trips with gauges and radio, or cleaner look.

Earlier today I uploaded a ton of pics of various road kings in the road king picture thread if you want to see some variations.
Both are really cool, I like the Road glide to myself with the smaller fairing and shark nose, but the suspension on the King is the best imo.

I'm 66 - riding my Ultra Classic - I tried a Heritage Special I really liked it but it about beat me to death on concrete interstates or going to Reno - I ride the ultra around town all the time without issue - Handles the big road about as good as any bike can - Just keep the shocks pumped up - I'm keeping what I got till I finally know it's time to hang it up. - Tom

+1for the Ultra. Traded my '08 FXDC in on my '12 Ultra Classic and have not regretted it at all. Put Leather Pros bags and trunk on the '08 with a Sundowner seat, air shocks, 4" risers and hi-way pegs just to get it right. After 32K I wanted something a little more "comfy". The Ultra really fills the bill. Tunes, cruise, air shocks, and all the other little extras have me spoiled now. Ride it to work every day I can (plus a trip that was almost 6K) and have over 10K on her in less than 3 months. If you plan on riding any distance, the Ultra will shine and around town its still nimble.

For your size and mostly solo riding the RK is lighter and as comfortable a touring machine as any.

Traded my Wide Glide for a 2012 CVO SG, couldn't be happier (despite the hit I took trading the WG in). There's nothing like kicking back on the freeway with the music blasting...

I guess it really comes down to personal preference as to what style of bike you want and what kind of riding you do.
I too am 49 and about to be 50. For me and my current place in life, I absolutely love my road king classic. Ditched the white walls first thing but wouldnt change anything else.
The ride and handling solo is the best of anything I have ever sat my butt on. My days of hard tails and stretched front ends is long gone.

I always ride solo but have buddy I ride with who buys a new one every year. We trade out all the time. About every 2 or 3 years he ends up buying another RK. He has a new road glide ultra now and for me it is just big and heavy compared to my RK, but maybe it is just me. My flhrci just seems balanced perfectly and handles like a dream to me.

Like someone said, go rent several different bikes and see what feels best to you.

Let me get this right. You want to get rid of your lighter and faster bike for a slower and heavier bike? I would be going the completed opposite direction when I get older.

You dont have to be a big fat bastard to ride a big boy bike. I traded in my SuperGilde for a Roadglide Ultra. Im at 150lbs. I kinda miss the SuperGlide that thing was fast!!!

Well I'm a Road Glide man personally, but if I had to choose between a SG and RK, I'd go with the King, very versatile. Also touring frame doesn't equal slow, mines has a few goodies and I know if I can run M109s, I can definitely run Dynas, but it is a lot more comfy.

There is a lot of difference between a windshield bike and a fairing bike. If you want uncluttered looks, the king is a better choice. If you want the wind/rain protection of a fairing, get a glide. And you will be money ahead to get a classic or ultra. If you don't need or want the tour pak or lowers, sell them on eBay and get some of your money back. The pak is worth a grand and the lowers will bring half that. My vote would be the glide. Never heard anyone say after 8 hours of riding "I sure wish I didn't have a fairing and a radio"
