Default FYI - Fuel Moto Billet Backing Plate

For anyone looking to buy the Fuel Moto solid billet A/F backing plate I have some information that may save you some aggravation.

The backing plate for the TBW bikes IS NOT the one pictured in the first large picture on the Fuel Moto HD Air Filter page. I love the looks of that set up but they tell me it will not work on our newer bikes.

You HAVE to use your stock breather bolts and rubber tubes that came with the bike.

Luckily I was able to locate mine in a box in the basement. I wished the product description mentioned the fact you reuse your breather bolts & tubes.

I just got done installing it and the set up is basically like the V & H Drake Filter that I had on their before I went with the Arlen Ness Big Sucker. The two tubes stick out straight towards the back of the filter element. Brian at Fuel Moto said that they have had no complaints about oil dripping down into the filter but I know on the V & H unit, it dripped down constantly.

Also, the backing plate will NOT work with an Arlen Ness air filter element.

I guess time will tell but it's on the bike and doesn't look that bad. See pictures.

There are pictures on our website of each kit and part number http://fuelmotousa.com/harley_filter.htm The TBW Pro Billet AC is designed so you do not need to remove the metal throttle body bracket, the breathers work very well and we have seen absolutely zero issues in the many, many of these units we have sold. If you are not completely satisfied with this kit we will offer a full refund. We also offer a lifetime warranty on the entire kit.

Just to clear things up, I'm not complaining about the business or the product. The first person I spoke with to place the order was not familiar with the product which I found out later. I could have cancelled the order after another employee called me back to advise on the filter element issue but I decided to go ahead and get it shipped.

I assumed things and you know what happens when you do that. I do think the product description should include the fact that you have to reuse your OEM breather bolts and tubes. This way, if you threw them away, etc., you could order them from HD prior to receiving the filter kit. Just my opinion.

I'm hoping that the kit works like Fuel Moto states but it's great to know that if it doesn't, their gladly take it back. Can't ask for more then that.

I have their air cleaner that was bought last year and slip on mufflers. The A/C drips a lot of oil and after contacting Fuel Moto they did offer to sell me the new backing plate (that is suppose to solve that problem) for 79.99.

Default Exposed rubber tubes.

Has anyone had any problems with the exposed rubber tubes? I am considering the Fuel Moto, but I am concerned that the exposed tubes may be a weak link. If one got damaged you would be sucking unfiltered air in.

No, I did have to replace one of the rubber tubes (it split at the nipple) after 50K miles and now keep a spare just in case. Also I would have never known there was split the bike ran just fine.

added: I'm on my second Fuelmoto kit becuase they make a very good product IMHO

I bought this stage one setup from Fuel Moto a year and a half ago, I installed it as the instructions said and on the first ride after about 3 miles my bike was smoking like a coal train! one of the rubber hoses was pinched where it comes through the chrome cap and caused oil to be pushed to the intake and exhaust valves blowing the seals, and both head and base gaskets. $1309.51 later I got it back from the dealer and it had a SE stage one air filter on it. I called Fuel Moto and was told Jamie was on vacation and they would tell him what happened and I never head back from them. I think its in my tool box and if anyone wants it just pay shipping and its yours!!

Weird. Some people are just snake bit, I guess. 14K last year on my Road King with it last year, no issues. Another 1.5K with a new one this year so far no issues.
