Default Dunlop Tire Report - 2011 FLHTK 19,700 Miles

I thought I'd just throw this out here for everyone's information. I've had my tires since I got this bike and I've been impressed with them. I've never had a set of tires achieve this type of mileage on a MC.

Admittedly, I normally wouldn't have attempted to stretch the mileage out this far but I'm going to Afghanistan next month and I didn't want the bike to sit for year with brand new tires rotting away.

My usual riding is in central Florida with only exceptions on the interstate. I've gone to the Smoky Mountains twice using only the back roads from central Florida and I've ridden once to Knoxville TN using mostly I-75. I am not easy on the bike either unless my SO is riding with me.

We ride in the rain or what ever nature throws our way. The tires have always gripped the road and I've never lost traction. I briefly thought about trying the Michelin Commander II but I had to ask myself why?? I'm not unhappy with the Dunlop’s. There's noticeable scalloping on the road crown side of the tire for obvious reasons but other than that there's no sign of abnormal wear.

I weigh 200 lbs and my SO weighs about 100 . This of course doesn’t hurt matters.

so I've included some for ya'll.

I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has had both the Dunlop's and Michelin Commander II's to see what they thought of the difference. Thanks in advance, ride safe ya'll.

2009 SG w/ 19K and I'm my 2nd set of OEM tires and I'm ready for the 3rd as they wont pass inspection. Ride solo, I check the tire pressure once a week, and I'm not an aggresive rider. Not impressed at all with the longevity......I'm going to try the Dunlop American Elites this time around.

My guess is not the 407 and 408. They do seem to last a long time, but you know that just means your giving up grip, as a stiffer rubber just will not grip as well. I tried a real sticky tire on mine last winter and it lasted 3500 mi. Short life but I couldn't hardly get it to break loose, even on known wet slick streets and popping the clutch. I'll go with another if and when real winter hits here. I have an E 3 on the back now. It has 6K plus on it and it has a long way to go.

I thought the American elite was maybe a different tire than the OEM. I guess it'll be a set of Michelin commander 2's then

Got 7500 on mine and they still got plenty of meat....don't see any reason why I wont get the same mileage.

2011 Limited... I got 20,000 out of the D407 rear, and 34,000 and counting on the D408 front. Like the OP, this is by far the most I have ever gotten on a motorcycle tire

I replaced the rear with an American Elite and it has 14,000 on it now. I'm sure it will go to 20,000 just like the original 407.

I have two new American Elites sitting in the garage right now but I'm pushing the front a little longer to see what I can get out of it before doing the change. 20k was a record for me on the front, the 34+k on the front is already a record but I'm going to push it as far as I feel safe - maybe 40k?

I don't see myself ever trying a tire other than 407/408 or American Elites on this bike. I am completely satisfied with all aspects of these Dunlops.
