Default saddle bag speed nut and wing bolts - part numbers: Ace/Lowes/Depot

the stock pins may spread over time or vibrate out- and recent posts about theft drive a frenzy.

your local hardware store can a source for an easy preventative fix for under $10

Crown Bolt #43228 speed nut (SMS type U 5/16-18 thread )

Crown Bolt #66808 wing bolt ( 5/16-18 thread X 1" )

a couple of rubber fender washers too, or reuse the stock ones

I think I know what you are talking about but not sure. I'm not very mechanically minded. Would you have the time to post a couple of pix? Thanx

a "speed nut" is a nut captured in a clip.

this clip attaches the the saddlebag mount.

the wing bolt screws from the inside of the saddlebag through the speed nut, and will hold the saddlebag tight to the mount.

unlike a regular bolt, a wing bolt ( or wing screw) can easily be turned with the fingers, so no wrench

alternatively, just positioning the rings on the stock pins toward the center, and tying an old shoe lace between them to keep tension and position will work too.

Lest we forget the entire brackets can be taken off with a box wrench in minutes unless you protect the bolt head. A copper pipe cap or even a PVC pipe cap can be installed to protect the bolt head from access. Or, install a torx bolt instead of the stok 6 point bolt.

Thanx, the picture was a big help. Looks like an easy thing to do. The LV post made me realize how easy they can stolen. Not fool proof, but another layer of protection

Bingo, its seems that attatching the bags better to the zues clips, is of no consequence, if they can be removed with a 7/16" wrench.
