Redline 20W-50 quieted down my 103 immensely from the Syn 3 or the Mobil 20W-50 synthetic.

The nature of the 103 is the ticking and noise. They just 'come with the motor'.

The Redline works best for the varying temps out here in Colorado.

 

Just for the sake of understanding, do you hear the ticking sound all the time or only when your engine becomes really hot?
The valves of my 96 sound like cymbals after a long day of travel.
