Just bought my first HD, 2001 E-Glide Standard. My riding buddy has a few Harleys, one of which is an 2001 Ultra Classic, he is running a true dual setup, SE Air Cleaner, SE 203 cams and a dyno tune. I am bone stock with a set of cycle shack slip ons. His bike is FI and mine is CV, for some reason we are running damn near neck and neck. Does the CV have that much of a power difference over the FI? I know that year of FI is not exactley great, but cant imagine it would be that much pf a downgrade... Thoughts?
One thing that jumps right out at me is that the 2001 carb bikes use 3:15 final gearing and the 2001 FI bikes use 3:37 final gearing. I would think the FI bike would be faster out of the hole. From a 60mph roll on I would also think it would have an edge as it's running a couple hundred rpm's higher. And the FI bike has 203 cams? Something ain't right even with the duals. On a properly tuned 88" the Magnetti Marelli FI isn't holding it back. I think your friend needs to find a better tuner.
The true dual exhaust hurts the smaller engines much more than larger cube builds. They often have large primary pipes that cause a serious drop in lower rpm torque when used on 88" motors, and therefore make it much harder to tune.
