Yes, I bought a tour pak for my Mrs and she lost room from using the back rest. But, she is now closer to me and makes an excellent back rest for me. So, we are happy with it.

I would guess 4 new holes in a TP would make it possible to relocate it back. It is an option if one is considering a TP anyway. If the 4 relocation holes did not do the trick, if one could not get the desired space, then a piece of metal plate, or plywood, between the TP and it's rack would give one the flexibility to get more room towards the rear. Remove the TP, install the plywood or metal plate to the rack, then install the TP to the plywood or metal plate.

Note that you drill all holes into your metal plate before you have it chromed. You do not drill holes through chrome. If you do, moisture can get between the chrome and metal and cause the chrome to fail and the metal to rust.

No more than my wife is going to ride anyway I could always just paint it black after modifying it since I have a vivid black bike. My only issue with modifying this is I have a daughter that I love to take with me that is 8 and I dont want to mess it up for her also cuz she rides more than my wife. May have to buy another backrest for her.

Default there is a relocation kit with instructions

on the Milwaukee Bagger site. they sell a relocation kit that moves the 4 point docking system back an inch to accomodate a stretched fender.

that might work or at least give you some ideas. there are instructions with pictures on his site....

Sounds like a great idea waiting for someone to do it. Take the side plates, and install a second set of “U” mounts for the bar. Paint or plate. Could be worth $$.

Kuryakyn makes a sliding Tourpak mount for extra room, there are a few others that allow the rebolting for that to be repositioned but I too have not seena sissy bar repositioning kit/bracket/mechanism, may be something to drop on Kury for a production line and to take the experimental costs away from the average rider.

As far as moving the back rest back. I have done some fab work in the past and I also showed this to a friend with a fab shop. The only way to move the B/R back is to cut the welds and move it back and reweld it. The four point mount is incorperated into the back chrome rails that are from H-D. The way this is designed I think they wanted to make sure it wasn't easy to do.

On the pre 08 Models it was very easy. You could make up a plate that moved the mount back two inches. I did it on my 03 RKC and it worked perfect.

I valve the same problem for my 2012 SG. I looked into adjustable options on eBay, but chose not to go that route. We will be pulling the trigger on a tour pack and a relocation kit.

FWIW, here is the link to the item I saw on eBay. This is NOT for the 09-later models, but it is the product I was referring to.

I can see on the older style how that would work. I sent the guy a message to see if he made anything for the 09 and later.

Lot of good ideas but still floors me that Harley does not make something for this.

I have the same issue, I'm hitting the swap meet during Biketoberfest to find another pad support to use for bending in case it wrecks the chrome. That way Ill still have one if I have to get it replated. Can't cost too much for a use one, any cycle salvage places near you?
