Understood, but what happened to the starter/compensator issue that you were having?
That is my question.

 

I had horrible grinding in my 08 Ultra after about a min into running. It was the starter Relay going bad it would intermittantly get stuck and keep the starter going while the bike is running. Needless to say I went out and purchased a starter also.


So now I have a brand new starter from Harley if anyone needs one. I was able to get it at discount. 389.00 I was able to snag for 300 if anyone needs a new starter.

 

Yeah this is a good info thread. I have an 09 have had noises before.
Still have the original comp w/about 25K on the bike.
That's why I wanted mikebaby to let us know WHAT HAPPENED?
So mikebaby what happened?

 

I have an '09 FLHX with a 107 big bore kit. I also experienced the horrible starter grinding at start up. I replaced the compensator sprocket with the SE version and the main ring gear because it was missing a couple teeth. It still made the grinding noises. I then replaced the starter clutch. All better now, no more grinding. Bike has approx. 45K miles.
