Default V&H Fishtails Too Loud???

I purchased a set of V&H Fishtails for my 11 EG Ultra Classic last weekend at Delmarva Bike Week. I did a search and read posts that guys were saying with the standard baffles they were loud and they were switching out to the quiet baffles.

I installed them on a my bike 96 motor, stage 1 A/C, decatted headpipes, PowerVison mapping and they are pretty quiet compared to the Big Louis I just took off. When I was buying them the guy at the V&H truck told me I would probably have to cut the baffles to get some volume out of them.

I love the look but from what I had read here I was expecting something different as far as sound volume. Has anyone here gone this direction? I have reasd plenty that quieted them down, but anyone else find them too quiet as they were?

I have the standard baffles in mine, and they are not very loud. Style over sound is the way I look at it.

I came off a Heritage with V&H BSS, which were *loud*, and I loved them, but for my RKC I wanted the look of fish tails.

So yeah, they are relatively quiet.

Thanks Keith

I love the look and will be changing my picture soon so I can "show them off" but looks like I might be doing a little surgery this weekend...

I had the samsons on my RKC and had to put baffles in because they were so loud, but these are the opposite extreme. Just want a little more sound, nothing so obnoxious that I get a headache or break windows as I am going by just a little more sound...

I also think they sound quieter partly because they are further behind me than the BSS's on my Heritage were.

Definitely post up documentation of your surgical procedure, I might try it.

I've run these without the baffles to increase the volume, but didn't care for the "sound" that way, next week I am going to take the baffles to the muffler shop and have them cut down by 50-60% and welded back up... I have a good feeling that'll be just what I'm looking for.

Forgot to mention.... right now I am running NO baffle and these

great price, sounds good, loud, take a bit of modification to the muffler but nothing noticeable while they are mounted to the bike. For the $$ they are worth a try for sure!

OK so I removed the baffles today, they were 12" long and I took out the sawsall and cut them down to 6". It only took about 20 minutes from start to finish. Pull the pipes, loosen the shield clamps. pull the pipe out of the shield, one screw pull baffle, cut and put it back together.

I am really not sure that it mdke that big of a difference. I still like the sound but as far as volume I'm not sure it is any louder.

Anyway I made a video the other day with the standard baffles and I made one today with the cut baffles. You decide.

Before

After

Thanks for the video clips!

Well from the video clips I say you are correct, the volume level seems almost exactly the same. And from what you said, in person not much diff either huh..

So I guess I'll save time and not do the baffle cut down, I'll probable just keep the Thunder Torque Inserts with no baffle. For Now anyway :-) I need to find a way to get fishtail tips onto a set of CFRs

Hey Rev I think I will give the Thunder Torgue a try and see how they work out. Are you using the 158 W model?

Yup, 158 W
You need to drill out the baffle bolt hole a bit bigger and cut a thin long rectangle in the end of the heat shield so it will slide over the nut that holds the insert. All in all for $20 and a bit of work I am Very Pleased. I just like to continually tinker with stuff :-)
