Ultra Neutral Light Issue

Ok so this really is stupid, but the other night I was trying to put my 11 EG Ultra in Neutral and I kept passing Neutral as the N indicated (or so I thought) Since it was Bike Week here in Ocean City and we were meeting some friends not to mention there were like 100,000 people in town and I can't find neutral I said F it and shut the bike off leaving it in gear. We came out after dinner and went for a ride through town, as we were stopped at a light I put it in neutral and the N did not light up. Rode some more more stops etc.. and about an hour later the light was working again. Next day no light ride it for a while then it worked. It has been on and off all weekend, sometimes it works and some times it does not.
Very strange, I knew the first night that it was not me, I have put the bike in neutral many times and never had trouble.
So has anyone else ever had this problem? If so what was it?
Thanks

The H-D tranny is designed so that N is found from 1st- not 2nd
( I know you know this, but for newbies...you can find N from 2nd...it'll take an hour.)
difficulty finding N can result from primary fluid level/type or primary chain tension or clutch adjustment.
If this is a brand new problem and very likely unrelated to the above ....then I'd look at the switch itself and the wiring to the switch.
