Default problem with dealer

I dropped my 012 RKC off at the dealer on 8/4/12 for oil consumption. The following Tuesday 8/7/12 they called and said bike needed new pistons, valves, guides and seals. My problem is now it is 9/4/12 and bike is still not done. Is there anyone such as HD themselves that I can call and get an answer to why it is taking so long, bike is still under factory warranty only has 7,000 miles on it. I have called dealer numerous times and always get the run around never really a straight answer. Thanks to all for any suggestions.

make sure you have documentation of all communications.

do you have documentation of their acknowledgement of a warranty issue?

if not, go in...ask for paperwork on the warranty claim.

once you have the paperwork in your hand, let them know that if they cannot do the work in a timely manner, then you will take the machine elsewhere.

...to another dealer that wants this business ( they get paid by H-D) and your business into the future.

you have to let them know that their foot dragging is relieving you of the use of your vehicle. and this complaint needs to go from service, to the sales floor, to the business office.

if service is a dick, pressure from the front will move you bike to the head of the line.

do some home work on pennsylvania's vehicle lemon law....some territories decree that a certain percentage of time in repair facility means you get a new vehicle.

Have you talked to them in person? I have found that it is too easy for a person to lie over the phone. Much harder to do while looking them in the eye.

Is the service department really busy, also might the parts be on back order? May seem silly, but even though they're common parts, production of new bikes is in full swing now, and a lot of times they won't necessarily just set parts aside.

Did they give a reason for the delay?? If i is a parts concern there is little that they can do. I work at an auto dealer and there are times that a part is on backorder. The only recourse is to talk to the dealer repto expedite parts delivery, sometimes works sometimes not.

If you haven't done it already, it's time to push for a loaner while the bike is in for repairs.

Yes. Go to the shop and ask them. They can TELL ya parts are on back order and you'll never know for sure.

A car dealership could never get away with this. I do agree that an in person visit is warranted. Before you leave get a commitment on a finish date.

Since the other broke bike/ dealer post just died this one is right on time... I would demand a new bike, and clothes, and 2 loaners just in case the new on runs out of gas!!
