Harley makes it to hard to rent a damm bike!!!
I'm taking a trip to Phoenix in October and I was hoping to rent a bike for a few days while I was out there, but they require a credit card for a $2000 deposit and won't take a debt cards. I pay cash for everything and don't have a credit cards. I just want to ride!!!

I dont know if its different in Chicago but I went to the dealership last week and they said if I rent for at least 3 days and buy some type of $29 a day insurance, then I only have to put $100 down as a deposit. Otherwise it would be $1000 deposit (which I dont have). Ill see if I can find the info for you and you can check their site to see if they have something out by you.

how do you rent cars, get a hotel etc. etc.?
seems every time I do either of these there is someone with a debit card with that exact problem--- standing there with their suitcase hemming and hawing ( maybe swearing)
The CC provides a record of financial responsibility and possible recourse to the vendor.
the smart thing is to use a credit card and pay off the balance in full each bill period- that way you use their money and get the benefits of a CC without the charges

I hear ya man, I just make sure I have the 2k in there and tell him its a credit card, wont matter, I use it for hotel rooms and equipment rentals and stuff all the time.
They wont know the difference, they run it to test it and if it clears they cancel it and put it on hold or something depends who you deal with.
You can also leave a cash deposit I think.

I don't know how I would live without a credit card. Simply pay off the full balance each month and it is essentially just like paying cash for everything albeit a month or two delayed. Works for me.
The idea and concept of a debit card is completely foriegn to me and seems like a short-term record keeping nightmare. Kind of like the old days when you used to write checks - if you forget to make an entry, then how much money do you really have. A debit card is like writing checks and never making an entry - I'd never know precisely how much money I had available at any given time.
