Default How do you remove the fairing cap (the plastic part where the switches live)

I'm working on wiring my passing lamps today and can't figure out how to remove the fairing cap (the plastic part where the switches live). Can it be done without special tools?

Here is one of the many results that a search came back with, last post on the first page has what you are looking for. Be aware that you may have problems putting it back together seems like a lot of people do.

You need to remove the ignition switch first. That is a small process. Then you remove the 2 screws on either side of the cap to lift off the cap.

I am basing this on my '06. It may be a whole lot different with your 2012.

The link that vzts4q gave you may help as it has the detail involved but it is for an older scoot.

After lifting off the cap, if you need it completely removed, there is a 12 point plug that the switches are wired to - it is quick disconnect. you may or may not be able to reach it by going in underneath the inner fairing, depending on how the factory crammed the everything into the fairing. I've worked on bikes where it was quick disconnect by reaching in underneath and other bikes where the only way to get at it was to remove the outer fairing.

Before you remove the thick metal threaded washer and the washer underneath get a Sharpie and draw a line so you can line them up when putting things back together . The first time I took things apart I did not do this - just tightened things down. Found out when things were back together the selector switch positions did not line up and I have a hard time turning the bike off. It was also a bitch getting things apart again.

Now I just align the marks and I am good to go.
