Labor rate for apes

I am currently running 12's on my bike now. I paid guy 350 (Houston) to have them put on in 2010. I have a set of 16's that I have had for almost 6 months waiting to put them on. I along with another forum member or going to tackle this in October. As much as I don't want a 2 day affair, I also do not want to she'll out 480 to get the job done. That was the best quote I have had here in DFW 8hrs labor @ 60 hr. Chit saving the 480 will cover the new cables, bushings and give him a couple of dollars for the help.

I've changed my handle bars on my 2011 RKC twice. First time to Heritage bars then 12" apes. The second time I had to do the cable the brake line and wires. I did it all myself, I saved money and became "one with the bike". I did my own brake line bleeding, it's not necessary to take it to the dealer for the front/middle line.

I just pulled the trigger on a set of 16" cyclesmiths from HCC with all wires/cables. Just the kit not the complete set up with new controls etc... My normal shop said 6 hrs labor. He charges 60 per hr so that is 360.00 plus I need a front brake line since I am running a single rotor. Indy will handle that also. I guess I am looking at 400-500 is that a fair price?

I wasn't iinstalling apes, I chose Heritage-style bars. The bars cost $75 and I was quoted around $300 for the install and the Heritages require no cable changes. So, I researched on this forum, found some good instructions, got out the service manual and did it myself. It was not difficult nor particularly time consuming (even taking my time and double checking everything). It took about 2 hours. I'm no expert wrench and I thought it was a pretty easy DIY job.

Just a heads up; when you receive the bars/cables and all that comes with, inspect them VERY VERY carefully. I know, and have read about many pissed off HCC customers. I have no personal experience with their products, but that is a direct result of all the bad press I've heard about them. (i.e. low quality chinese parts, parts out of specs, or just plain wrong specs, chrome flaking, and bad customer service) In fact, I've seen a bike with the HCC apes/cables package and lets just say I immediately judged them to be sub par. For all the aforementioned reasons, I won't buy from them.

To be honest the dude I spoke with on the phone @ HCC was pretty unfriendly. I tried to overlook it though because everyone has their bad days. I went ahead and ordered the cyclesmiths because I know they are good quality bars. I was told that the cables are motion pro. I will need to buy a front brake line separate because I have a single sided rotor. (PM wheels). I have read the mixed reviews and most seem to have been from quite a while back. IDK guess I will find out soon enough.
