CB Radio - Reception Question

CB Radio - Reception Question
I recently installed the handlebar mounted JMCB-2003-DU CB Radio (from J&M) along with a 3 foot antennae.
I'm not really happy with my reception, seems like the otherriders can hear better at longer distances (stock CB's from Harley-Davidson) than I can.
Any suggestions on how to improve reception? Maybe a 4 foot antenna?

Also, the license plate antennae mount blocks me from opening the right rear saddlebag lid completely. Anyone find a different mount for this?
Thanks for any suggestions.

RE: CB Radio - Reception Question
I had one mounted on a Royal Star and mine worked great. As far as the reception, they did have the squelch tight on the unit to get it quiet. I really dont think there is a way to change that part of it because it is a sealed unit. I used a 3 ft antenna on mine that I picked up at a truck stop because I thought J&M's antenna was a little pricey. I will say, Mine recieved very well and I really think it is a good unit for the money.
