Default Rear Suspension Air Pressure

I've got my 2012 SG, and I'm curious what my rear shock pressure is, and if I should play around with pressures. Do people adjust occasionally or set it and forget it? I wish the pump wasn't 50 bucks.

do not use a bicycle or other large bore pump, you'll blow out the seals and trash the shocks.

I use SG shocks on my 09 EG Classic, solo, I run 7 pounds- with riding gear I weigh about 235 and probably carry 20 pounds of crap in the saddlebags.

more weight, such as a passenger i add more air.

Go to your manual as it gives a table for correct air pressures for specific weight ranges.
BTW many guys on here will tell you to run a higher air pressure than what the charts will tell you.
That is because the older bikes had shocks that needed higher pressure than the new bikes.
And some of these guys don't realize that the pressure tables have changed.

On my 12 Ultra I run 25 psi solo and 35 psi when the OL is along. I'm still figgeting around with that a bit. I scored a pump for 25 bucks so I can keep messing with it!

I keep mine set anywhere from 28 to 35psi on my 10 Ultra I bought the pump and adjust it when loaded down with the ole lady but she only weighs 110 lbs I check it every couple of weeks because they do tend to loose a little air from time to time especially if I hit a pothole hard.

Unless you want to change the sysytem altogether, I'd say spend the $$ on the HD pump at LSHD1.com. Wait till you need some other stuff to get free shipping.

Then RTFM and adjust accordingly. Anyway, that's what works for me.

I can't tell the difference in ride from 10 PSI or 50...
So I set mine at 35 and call it 'good'.

I'm 230 OL is 145. I run 38 solo and 44 loaded 2up.
You can find the pump on eBay, but I use it often, so the $50 or so bucks was worth it.

I finally broke down and bought the pump today. I am glad I did. Yeah, its pricey, but its nice having the gauge right there, being able to bleed off a lb of air (or less) at a time, and not losing air when you disconnect it. My shocks were down to 0, pumped it back up to 20# in just a few pumps of the handle.
If you can at all save up for it, do it. Or yeah, look for a used on ebay or craigslist.
