Apes with fairings look ridiculous, IMHO. Apes only look good on Softails, WideGlides, Rigids, & RoadKings.

11" Santees

Excuse the axe blade mirror on the right. I just got them finished before hurricaen Isaac screwed me up. Still trying to decide on mirrors, not sure if the fairing mounted mirrors will work for me or not.

Who cares what everyone else thinks. Crap, your bike your modification. Personally, I could care less what other people think about my ride and modes. But I like Ape hangers, and think they look great.

I have a set of the Harley 12" Mini Apes in the Touring Classifieds for anyone interested in trying some out for a good price. On my 2012 the wires are long enough, at least a couple of guys have written up the procedure for rerouting your brake line on ABS bikes. They need a longer clutch cable but just to try them out you can re-route it from inside the fairing, to up the frame rails between the tank and fairing, its plenty long this way just doesn't look good long term.

I'd like to go with some apes, can anyone one tell me about their experiences in cold weather riding? If your hands are are up over the batwing fairing do they get blasted with cold air? I will ride in 20 degree weather.

I don't have heated grips, the state trooper down the road does and if I got them I wouldn't be tougher than him!

I occasionally ride down into the 20s too and for that, I wear Gerbings heated gloves. Of course even on my old Road King with heated grips and apes, I also wore the Gerbings.

My 12.5s are just above the fairing but still protected from the brunt of the wind. Still colder, and wetter, than stock though. 14s will but you up into the windstream.
