No Seriously... It truely is.

This is my first Harley, (but have been riding a cruiser for over 12 years) Now granted I only have just over 400 miles on my 2012 EG /UL and when shiftling out of neutral and into first, there is a loud 'clunk' also there are times (more so than not) where it is very difficult finding neutral. I know it took some time to 'find it' on my other bike, but I know where it is it just won't go on this one? Is this "normal"??

Go ahead and insert your smart-@$$ comments cause I like reading those too. But I would perfer some legit comments as well!

Thanks, you all have been awesome !

couple of similar threads lately.

Harley tranny design makes for shifting into N from 1st- not from 2nd

clunk, snick or clatter...sometimes normal, sometimes indicates an adjustment of primary chain or clutch is needed.

if you've ever had a BMW boxer or moto guzzi, these clunks happen...tractor technology

It is "normal" but you can do things to lessen it and make it shift easier like using Redline Shockproof Heavy in the tranny, adjust clutch differently, etc.

As much as I hate this answer....it applies here:
You get a clunk going into first gear from neutral? It is NORMAL.
Takes you two times upshifting from 1st to second to find neutral? It is normal.

Some will tell you to put in purple oil, red oil...any thing but Harley oil.....but nothing helped me....in any of the Harleys I have owned. They have all had the "Harley Clunk".

Congrats it sounds like yours is working as it should. As long as it is a slight clunck that appears to be pretty normal at least on the HDs I have had. The neutral thing well you'll get used to it and find it easier over time.

Easiest for me to hit N using the heel shifter.

Congrats on your first Harley! The clunk is normal, the neutral will be easier after he first service (which I used synthetic.) Lots of other good info on this on this site.

"Clunk" has been normal for all 9 my wife and I have had - I have noticed a very drastic improvement in shifting and finding nuetrel by changing to better oil in the transmission - on my wifes Superglide she complained a lot about finding it, as soon as i changed at the 1000 change she immediatly could find it easier - it kind of amazes me they sell them with that in them, unless its something to do with break in, pretty sure someone on here will know and chime in, congrats on the HD!
