Default Chesapeake bay bridge- tunnel.

I am going to ocean city MD. For bike week (Delmarva). Riding down from new york. Thinking about riding down to the bay bridge-tunnel. For you guys from the area is it worth the ride? Is it something special? Probably a 200 mile ride.
Thanks.

I live on the MD Eastern Shore about 15 minutes from Ocean City. The Bay-Bridge Tunnel is really cool, 25 miles across the bay with two really cool tunnels. The ride to get there is quite boring though. Rt 13 just one long 2 hour stretch with nothing special to see (it is the dreaded part of the ride whenever we go somewhere either on the bike or in the truck).

I would use the time to take rides to the Blackwater refuge and include hoopers and taylors island (head west on 50 about 1 hour from Ocean City). Or head south one afternoon to Chincoteague Island - Wallops Island (head south on rt113 - take a left on rt 12 in Snow Hill). Another nice ride around here is Crisfield. 113 south, right on 13 North. left past Sysco and follow signs.

I lived in NY and rode to Florida many times. 2 or 3 times I took the old route down 13/17. You should do it once, making the "Ride" part of the vacation. But not looking at a map, the Bridge/ tunnel is south of where you are going. For my money, If I was you I would take the NJ Garden State Parkway south to the end/ then take the Cape May Ferry over and then 13 down. It really will save you some miles and if you hit the right ferry/ saves you some time. Nice boat ride and you can have lunch.

It is cool, I guess. It is pretty much a straight ride with nice water to look at. The video I made of a ride across is pretty boring, but maybe it will give you some idea whether it is worth the ride or not. Just ignore the goofy self shot at the beginning. I assume you are talking about the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel in Virginia, if you are not just ignore this post

So as not to completely hijack the thread, I'll ask a question related to the OP's Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel--Isn't part of that bridge still a metal grate surface? Something to think about depending on the width and condition of your tires. My Sporty hated metal grates. I've also heard that you should avoid it on Sundays when it can get congested with people returning from the beach.

OK, so now to my real question. I have been looking rides on the Delmarva Peninsula. Any more recommendations? St. Michaels? I'm looking for good rides more than good destinations.

Everybody should do it at least once. Ditto for the ride to Key West. Hell...ditto for the ride to anywhere now that I think about it.

I think I'd take jjpish's advice as those are some nice quaint and scenic rides vs. the long haul from OC down to the CBBT. 13S down to the CBBT has a lot of stop lights and slow speed limits which makes it even longer with nothign especially interesting to see.
I'm a Crisfield'r (work in Salisbury) and one of my favorite short rides is between Snow Hill and Pocomoke through the forest taking Nasawango Rd. If you were heading over to Chincoteague or to 13S I'd take this route vs. 113.
