Stage 1 upgrade is easy stuff, even with limited tools. I went with CFR mufflers, FuelMoto pre-loaded PCV and billet air cleaner. I recommend the FuelMoto PCV. My first map still had popping on decel. Keith sent a new map with a couple days and cured the popping. In addition, if I have any future changes, FuelMoto will supply a new map for the set up.

Like some of the smarter folk on here, buying gently used would save you even more especially for slip-ons if they are a common model. Used CFRs are basically non-existent, but they are what I wanted so I had to pony up for new.

your bike is under warranty so you need to think about the hassles of warranty disqualification on work you do yourself vs paying more and being covered by the dealer. A lot of folks do their own work and don't care about the warranty, so plan accordingly.

I did my Stage 1 for around $1,200.

I did have the shop do the Stage 1 download.
And I have to admit I was being lazy when I took my bike to have the download installed because when I bought the Heavy Breather I just had them install it. Saved me some time and they gave me a break on the labor. I have installed the HB before and it's very easy to do.

Picked up a set of V & H True Duals for $360 and a used set of Monster Ovals for $360.

Very easy to install and it runs great with the download.

Well the option to this is to return the bike to stock if there are any issues. For me, it would be simply to swap mufflers and air cleaner, then remove PCV.

i've never heard of anyone having their warranty denied because they installed a set of mufflers or an air cleaner.....

i guess it could happen, but i've never heard of it. at least not in the states.

Seems like people warn about this all the time, but no one ever has a hard example of something that was denied. I mean, seriously, a lot of the dealer's service business is installing Stage 1 before final delivery. And no, it doesn't make any difference who does the install to keep your warranty, another urban legend ...

is this right? I think I can do it myself, is that possible?
I paid about $1200 for a stage II upgrade including changing the jugs and pistons with a dyno tune.

OP: the quote does seem to be a little high. I’m not sure how much the night sticks setup is but here’s my setup/cost:

I had mine done (see sig) at an Indy and it was roughly $1,900 from what I can remember. That was roughly $1,500 parts and the rest was labor/dyno. If I would have skipped the TDs and went with mufflers only it would have brought the cost down another $400 or so. Anyhow, crap is expensive when you have someone else do it.
