Really enjoy the simplicity and versatility of the PV. Plug it in, flash it, unplug it. Done. Or keep it on the bike, tinker with the guages available, tune with it, whatever. Really like that it flashes the ECM, and is not a piggy-back device.

Fuel-Moto is the place to buy it. Great pricing, post-sale customer service, and being a development partner with DJ, they really know what they are doing when it comes to developing/providing maps for your bike's particular configuration.

Sorry if these are stupid questions but I am really tuner dumb. Will the tuner make the bike run cooler? Also, I assume the tuner will improve performance across the range? What does a power vision cost?

Yes, yes, and anywhere from $419 https://www.directharleyparts.com/ (you have to add it to your basket to see the sale price) to $549 http://www.jpcycles.com/harley-parts

Short answer is Yes and Yes!

Any tuner doing its job will help get your engine out of the EPA lean condition that it is in stock. This will usually help performance (power, mileage, response).

The ease of the Power Vision is that it is a flash tuner and is very user friendly. So nothing needs to stay on the bike. it can also be used as a code reader or mounted to the bike to have additional data available in real time or recorded.

There is mountains of info posted on tuners and specifically there is a Power Vision thread going, so if your interested do some home work before you buy.

I love my PV, Ive used 4 other tuners and find this to be the easiest and with the support that you get from Fuel Moto (if you buy from them) you cant go wrong. Cost is almost $ 500.00

Thanx Jamie; Jason is a good guy and knows his dyno stuff.

Jason did my last dyno with the PC-V that I bought from you, and so far it is spot on. No issues and really don't see the need to switch it out yet as it is working so well with the dyno that he did.

Check out the PV sticky thread in the Tuner/ECM section (already linked), as it is quite active with lots of practical info on how to make the most of this tuner. It does get arcane and technical, but if you don't understand something just ask. Nobody will jump on you for asking a question, no matter how fundamental, as we've all been there.

It is a sophisticated tuner but may be overkill if all you want is an optimal tune. Don't misunderstand me, as I am currently using a PV and like it very much, but a PCV would be another good option for about $200 less. However, if you want to delve into the ECM's many tables as well as other available features you will be better off with the PV, IMO. For me it's worthwhile just for the display unit that will show most parameters provided by the ECM as well as calculated functions like gas mileage, fuel used, etc. These can be used to monitor engine functions as well as diagnose problems.

A tuner can only do what the human tuner tells it to do. Any such device can make a bike run cooler by dumping more fuel into the mix, but in my tests on my own bike I find the effects to be minimal. The beauty of these devices is to allow you to do what you want with your tune, and there is quite a bit of flexibility depending on where you want to go. If you want a richer tune to provide a small amount of heat decrease, albeit at the expense of fuel mileage, you can do that--or tune leaner for better mileage. For you, just getting rid of the catalyst will go a long way toward decreasing the heat that you feel on your right leg, if that is your primary concern.

They will also make a difference in performance if the tune is done properly. Going to a Stage 1 (AC and freer-flowing mufflers) will allow for a noticeable improvement in performance, and to get the most from it you'll need to re-tune the motor in response to the improved airflow made available.
