Default Interesting visit to the dealer.

I went to the dealer last week to ponder a trade on the upcoming 2013's. Right out of the gate they told me I better jump on a '12 instead because the '13's will cost 6-8% more (doesn't seem to be true...anyone made a comparison?)...and also they only wanted to give me $19k for my 2011 Ultra Limited with 5k miles and upgrades. WHAT???? So much for Harley's holding their value. I know they have to tack a few grand on to resell it, but DAYUM. Anywhoooo....watch out guys and gals....seems like you could swing a better deal on the 12's ....unless you have to have the 110 Anniversary Model.

anyone who is chasing " the new model" will take it in the shorts.

no surprise.

"Holding value"- 20 years ago when production was 30,000 units and there were 2 year waiting lists. supply now can easily match demand.

so...

The way to realize value is to get a bike and use it, rather than looking to trade every couple of years- they hold all the cards in that game

This time of year? They are always trying to sell off the previous years (current) inventory. Dealer here has 2k off normal retail prices, and no fees. If you want a 2013, wait until the 2014s hit the floor.

(this is what I did to get my 2011 RK)

Add ons are worth zero at a dealer, perhaps more to an individual. Most likely their only real value is either moving to a new bike if possible or selling as take offs.

The flip side is you don't pay the dealer any more really for a bike loaded with add ons. My just purchased 2009 FLSTC has over $2k of extras many of which are the specific ones I wanted and planned to add. I didn't pay more than $200-300 more than for a bone stock bike.

If they offered you 19K in trade and you are serious about a new bike, you better not balk. I'm surprised they offered that much.

You guys that buy new cars and bikes every two years have issues. Being that fickle means you are going to take it in the shorts every time.

I have heard the price increase comment every year for the last 3 with no real significant increase ever coming.

Yep!

Unless you just have discretionary money out the ***, I don't see the logic in trading an 11 for a 13. I don't like odd numbered years anyway, so if I were you and if you are still bustin' a nut to trade, wait for the 2014 models. Everyone knows that "13" is not a lucky number.

Jason, just curious but why would you want to trade an 2011 with 5k miles for a new bike. I don't understand
