Unexplained Noise at 2800 RPM
I put just over 900 miles on my 2012 Ultra this weekend, bringing my total mileage so far up to 6100. Right around 5700 I heard a noise while I was accellerating at that sounded like a rock hitting the inside of the front fender. I didn't think much of it at the time. It ended up getting worse and now after the bike is warmed up and I'm moderately accellerating somewhere between 2700 and 2900 RPM it kind of sounds like a couple of rocks rattling around in a tin can. Not fast, like someone is vigorously shaking the can but more like someone is just tipping it back and forth. (Not sure how else to describe it) It happens in every gear. I'm not sure where it's coming from, considering the reverberation off the fairing. I did park the bike and put it neutral and revved it up to 2800 RPM, holding it there, and couldn't hear it. My guess is that it's in the tranny or primary. Does anyone have a thought as to what it could be?

You've got the same problem I had at just about the same mileage....carbon buildup coupled with higher heat induced pinging. The only way I got it to stop was to get into my PCV timing map and retard key RPM/Throttle tables. Don't let it go on for too long before you do anything about it.
