Would a Road King offer best of both worlds?

The Road King windshield offers plenty of protection from wind. I rode a Road King from San Antonio to Milwaukee and back for Harley's 100th celebration and had abosultely no problem. I am on my second Ultra now, but only so my wife can have a comfortable back seat. If you aren't riding two up a lot the Road King is a great bike.

If you're planning on touring two up, that might be a different story. But you can still do things like buy the touring pack to address the luggage space issue.
This was my first Harley, and I don't have any regrets. I could've gotten an Ultra, but it wasn't my style at all.
I just got back from a trip to PA last weekend. Next month I'm heading to Quebec for some more fun.

IMHO, a Street Glide is a boulevard cruiser, not a good touring bike. It can be done, but the other bikes in the touring family are way more comfortable on the long haul. Including the Road King. Also IMHO, the RK is the best of all worlds, so long as you don't mine not having the tunes. I ride mine daily to work and back. Very comfortable and stylish for cruising around town on. And I would have no problem whatsoever throwing a travel bag onto the luggage rack and disappearing for a week or two. If two up touring was my main focus, I'd probably go with a Ultra Limited.

Hard to beat a King if you want versatility. Add a quality aftermarket Batwing for those long trips and a detachable tourpak and you have a bike equally suited for cross country touring or short trips around town. If I had not bought a new 12 Streetglide last year I would give the new CVO Road King a serious look.

I would test ride both that's a great suggestion. anyway I have a 99 RK I have 2 windshields and they come off and on with no tools the newer ones have the bigger fairing with a dash. Those are more involved in removing. they are great to change it up whenever you want. Either one congrats on your new bike.
