Yeah.............what soos said. I'll be dumping the air temp guage this spring for an oil temp guage on the Ultra.

How abouta "Chromegauge", doesn't matter what the gauge actually reads (oil, air, anything will do), if the gleam off your bikeschrome bits is not bright enough to stop you reading the gauge you do not have enough chrome yet.

On my 98 FLHT, which didnt have a radio, I put the Oil Presson the right & I put a 2" VDO Quartz Clock from Summitt on the left, about $50.00. I do mostly long trips so I found the clock to be handy if youre riding with a jacket & longer gloves and cant see your wrist watch ( or in my case, I dont wear a watch when riding).

If you have a radio or plan to get one, then it will have a clock in it so Id put a Oil Temp gauge in the lower left.

Already replaced air with oil temp, a big step in the right direction, but would still like to have a reliable air-temp gauge. Has anyone tried the handbar mount gauges either from HD or those sold on Ebay? The problem with the HD fairing-mounted air gauge is that the sender is in the fairing, which heats up in the sun and provides grossly erroneous readings as long as the sun is out. Some have relocated the sender outside the fairing and say it helps.

Regarding the dipstick thermometer, I had one on my old RK and would not buy another. It is not very durable, and in time the flimsy seals (very small o-rings) in the gauge allow water to enter, and soon thereafter that gauge is a useless hunk of metal. I tried fixing mine but it was toast. Second, you should be stopped when checking it, or risk life and limb leaning over while rolling. Since I like to know these things, I was doing that too much. Third, it can be stolen in seconds. Mine never was, but the opportunity is there for thieves.

Also, what options are there for adding a digital compass? Not a big priority for me, but there is room for a small digital display on the fairing.
