Yeah, no big deal.
If you run both the toe and heel shifters, you can take the heel shifter off and put it on as a toe shifter, then ride home with no problems.

Basically what i did...Yes. ...Nothing dangerous about pulling the clutch and costing or breaking to a stop.
Some guys are talking about a allen-key to fasten it. Mine takes a 7/16 wrench.

Unfortunately this happened to me apparently while riding with my feet on the highway pegs and I lost both heel and toe shifters as well as the shaft. I was within 30 miles of home ending a 12,000 mile ride to the Arctic Circle with no bike problems until then. Ran into traffic on I-10 and went to downshift and nothing there but floor board. Stopped and hand shifted into third and rode home on back roads. I had last shifted when entering I-10 after gassing up about 80 miles earlier. I did not go back and look for the parts on my crippled bike after 34 days of steady riding. Spent about $150 for the replacement parts. Still a good trip. Chit happens.
