Default FLHP Fender Rail Mod: Just Rubber Removal

did a search and found tons of guys removing fender rails from SG and others but not exactly what I am looking for. I just want to remove the rubber that is between the chrome fender rail and the additional chrome trim that hangs below the fender. It looks like you have to unbolt a strap (3 bolts) that goes on the inside of the fender right in the very front that holds the fender and each piece of chrome trim in alignment, then remnove 2 small bolts from the inside out that hold the rubber to the chrome trim on each side of the fender. My concern is that without the rubber and strap the chrome trim wont have any support in the front of fender and will bounce around or sag.

The look I am going for is sort of what you see on a Delux

You cant really tell whats holding the front of the rail up if anything.

Anyone done this?

People have removed just the rubber bumper, others have opted to remove the whole shabang. I removed the whole shabang.

Looks like you could trim the bottom half of the front strap off and just use the top rail to fender bolt for support. It's not very heavy. I'm with dawg tho, ditched mine completely.

on the 'glides they talk about having to add some sort of fender support when you remove the rear lower fender rail. Is this necessary on a road king? It doesnt appear so.

On your 09, you would not need anything when removing your rear bumper. Most of the 08 and earlier touring models needed a support bracket when removing the rear bumper.

I just reached in and pulled the rubber out of the bracket. It cleaned up the back and left something for the LEDs to reflect off of. The nostalgic saddlebag rails would complement it, I may have to buy some.
