Default Cam chain Tensioner Inspection

I just inspected my tensioners on my 01 Electra Glide and found hardly any wear after 32,000 miles! That's a relief. However, the cam plate gasket has hardened and I need to remove it. Anyone know an easy way to do this without damaging the soft aluminum surface?

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks

Thye make a tool called a gasket scrapper...
IIRC there is also some time of spray at your local automotive store that will assist in softening the old gasket.
Not trying to sound like a smart *** , although it does sound like it.

Thanks Ro, I do have one, but the gasket is stuck on the engine sideand the craper will guoge the aluminum. Not to worry, just reinspected the rear tensioner and although the shoe looks ok, I found a crack through the tensioner. I guess I ill upgrade to the Screaming Eagle Hydraulic type. Just more $$$$

Not to start an oil discussion, I always like to know what lube the person has been using when I hear of tensioners that wear nicely like your describing?

Look up the kit Andrews is selling, comes with everything you need plus your choice of cams, is part number 288999, they reccomended the 21N cam to me, the kit is $570, I am going to do it this winter after riding season.

Mine had normal wear at @ 31.5K. I have been using Syn 3 since my 1K service. The dealer told me that they have seen less tenioner wear with Syn 3 bikes. I did the SE upgrade so I did not have to think about them anymore and see the increased oil pressure with the new pump.
