Hello.

Bought a used 2012 from the US. Brought it up to Canada.
Saved a good bit of coin.
Dealer here says zero warranty coverage on this bike here.

If you have brought a bike from the US that was within the 2 year warranty time frame, how have you dealt with this?

I had response on Road Glide forums from a guy who was told by a US dealer that because his bike was transfered into Canada it has no US warranty now either!

You must be talking with that Car Dealer ship turned Harley Dealership in Langley.
Sorry couldn't resist the jab, and apologize to the mods if I have violated any rules.
So, they claim you have no warranty here in Canada they say, well what about back in the States, how far are you away from a Dealership South of the Border?

I have not imported a HD from the USA , but here is my opinion of the Original Warranty that comes with your HD Motorcycle...
"A Harley-Davidson Factory Warranty is a Harley-Davidson Factory Warranty is a Harley-Davidson Factory Warranty…doesn’t matter where you purchased it, where you own it, where you ride it…or were you get it serviced. YOUR VALID HARLEY-DAVIDSON FACTORY WARRANTY IS VALID AT ANY AUTHORIZED HARLEY-DAVIDSON DEALER. ANY AUTHORIZED HARLEY-DAVIDSON DEALERSHIP CAN PERFORM YOUR WARRANTY REPAIRS."

I borrowed that quote from a dealership in Wa.State that offers great service to us Canadians and felt it was right up your alley. Of course the dealership here in Canada will beg to differ with you, so find another dealership who will do the work covered under your warranty.

It is none of their business why you bought your bike in the USA or how much you paid for it there.
Just stick by your guns and ask why the dealership is not performing Warranty Work on an Authorized Harley Davidson Motorcycle.

Vehicle warranties for US vehicles are null and void once they cross the border. Same for cars and other stuff. I bought a BMW thru military sales in Frankfurt Germany that (in the US) came with a 3 year warranty. BUT since the car is made in Germany and being driven in Germany They only cover the first 12 months as a domestic car. I had to wait (18 months) till I got the car back to the states, registered it with BMW-USA until I could get any warranty work done. US warranty applicability laws do not apply in Canada or any other country. If they do help you it is out of courtesy and is not required.

 

It's all typical Deeley Canada BS, screw us over as much as possible, they have to make there 20-30% mark up on everything!

As I posted a guy on another forum said he imported a bike into Canada and Harley Canada refused his warranty issue because it was a US bike and then he went to the US and they refused it to because it was registered in Canada.

I will be phoning Harley Canada (Deeley) Monday and US Harley Monday.
I went to there websites and neither company takes emails, you get an address to write them a letter!!

A warranty should be a warranty!! I dont understand how that changes because I live in Canada. Its the exact same bike I buy up here.

There is a huge mark up in Canada for the same bike even when the dollar on par.
Definetly a gimmick that Deeley Canada is involved in to rip Canadians off.

A warranty is only valid in the country the item is purchase/registered in....that is US Federal law. US laws are void in other countries that's a fact! Warranties are drawn up according to US laws in effect at the time the item is produced. once it leaves our borders the laws have no effect so the foreign country does not have to honor it! No ones screwing with you it is just a fact of life!

There is a way to get the warranty honored. You have to get the rear fender and tailight from a Canadian model all done by a dealer. They will not drill holes in the fender, has to be all new. The cost of doing this is about the amount saved buying the US bike. I say F the warranty, Deeley's will screw you one way or the other!

I have a 2012 Road Glide Ultra and the rear tailight meets Canadian Standards. It meets all Canadian vehicle regulations.
I had this bike put through the RIV, Canadian Ministry of Transportation Registry of Imported Vehicle inspection. It needed nothing to meet Canadian standards and passed the inspection and is certified as meeting Canadian Transportation Regulations and Standards!
They even gave me a sticker!!

Still Harley dealership told me no warranty coverage!

What makes this seem like more of a scam is when one Canadian guy posted that he tried taking his imported bike back to the US for warranty work and he was refused because its now registered in Canada???!!??? Shesh!!

With the advent of the US post boxes to any and all, could a Canadian use one of these as a registration address?

If so, I'll take two of those CVOs please.

Silliness aside, if the post office box doesn't work, the inlaws are looking at retirement property down south. I could register it there...
