Default Help with a shaking motor!!!

I bought a used '07 RG 22Kmi. with a 103" big bore kit done by the dealer at the time of original purchase. I noticed it shook a bit when I bought it but I just thought it was a bad front mount. I took it to 2 dealers, both said it was normal. I took it to 2 indy's and they both said it was the crank run out. I first replaced the front mount and re-torqued the other two and this helped a little, not much. So I took it to one of the indy's and had him check the run out and it was .006 out, the specs say it should be less than .012 but the indy said he likes them no more than .003 out. So I opted for a new S&S crank, new bearings, Woods TW6-6 cams and cam tensioner while he was in there, also a T-Max with autotune too. I've only put about 250 mi on it since the work was done, still shakes too much but no more mechanical sounds and runs stronger and louder. The shaking is only at neutral but it is bad, can't see in the mirrors, blurs my vision and affects braking when coming to a stop at engine idle speed. It gets completely smooth at about 1250-1500 rpms, it idles right at 1000 rpms. Anyone have any ideas what might be causing this? Oh, the shaking is in-line not side to side.

sound like the indys like your wallet.

have a look at other bikes see if they are similar to yours.

the rubber mount drivetrain will bounce around at idle.

and holding the front brake at a stop will transfer vibrations which are normally absorbed by movement of the front wheel to the frame so you feel them.

at this point your bike is a little farther from stock, so more variables...

Completely normal. These engines are not counter balanced so they shake at idle.

Completely normal before and after the crank change. it is the nature of a rubber mounted motor that vibrates. The rubber mounts are not tuned to take the shake out at idle.

Yep, what he said.

Sorry to hear you spent money on something that was not necessary

It really pays to know when to call bullshit at the indy shop.

Well I've had other Harley's and ridden several others and I can tell you it is not normal. I've never seen one this bad. It is bad enough to shake my helmet and glasses to where it is difficult to see when coming to a stop, it also affects the braking when the clutch is in. All my riding buddies, with an assortment of HD's, also say there is something wrong with it. One dealer I took it to, to try and trade it in on a new '12 model, didn't want it though he was willing to take it with a few more thousand off the trade in price. Guess I should have taken him up on it, cheaper the the attempted repair costs. Wonder if I could post a video of it here?!?! You can see the front rubber mount compress about an inch between shakes.

ouch- sounds like this was a suspect purchase from the get-go.

and to tell the truth, i've read all kinds of threads on these forums where guys screw up perfectly good bikes with "performance work"...then dump them on the market when they don't run well.

but anything can be fixed.

If you are not satisfied with the work, take it back to the shop that did the crank and let them know.

otherwise you could check with Bill Miko
http://motorcyclegarage.net/

he's on Cave Creek Between Cactus and Hatcher on the West side of the street.
