When I bought my 04 electraglide last year I also bought the extended warranty mostly because of the cam chain tensioners. Today I read all the fine print and cam tensioners aren't covered along with a long list of other crap! I ride probably between 5 - 8 k miles per year, I wish I had that money instead of the plan.

hope you have the HD esp but they will not fix a noise or like check the cam shoes but if they come apart and take out the motor they will rebuild the motor , kind of dumb but that is what my dealer told me and have heard from others , checking your cam shoes is not part of your routine maintance

Nope not the Harley plan , but yeah if the tensioners **** can the engine they should cover it , because the tensioners are not scheduled maintenance, I'm just gonna ride and not worry about it.

I wonder how many folks who sell extended warranties get on these forums to tell horror stories? Naw, I guess I'm just a pessimistic SOB.

Last year i bought a 2008 FLHRC with 27,000 miles on it.
Since i had no idea how the previous owner treated the bike I bought a two year extended service ( it also covers tires) .
I have only used the policy once , one of the front wheel bearings went out .
The dealer replaced both front bearings and ajusted a few things while they were at it .
I have been paying for it monthly and could cancel the policy anytime .

If nothing major happens i am out the dough ,if the motor blows up it will be money well spent .
It's a gambel , i have peace of mind.

Got the same conundrum coming up this time next June and not sure I can justify spending 2k only to get turned down for the mod's I've done?

I've bought them with all 3 of my Harleys. My softail I traded in & got a pro-rated refund on. The same on my 2011 Limited. I never used either of them. On my 08 Roadking it paid for itself within 3000 miles. It's a gamble to say the least but when my crank scissored & took out my bottom end, it covered it all for the $50 deductible. It's
worth it to me but opinions vary.... I should note that my bike wasn't stock with the Stage 1 installed. No problems.

Default Been there, done that

2007 I bought the extended warranty for 1,700.00 and glad I did. It was two weeks before the warranty ended when my main shaft on tranny, clutch basket and bearings went. I was covered and got my money back and then some.

It's my understanding that the cost of the extended warranty(s) is(are) based on an extensive database of repair info. They wouldn't offer it for X dollars unless they had abundant info showing that the average bike has less than that amount for repairs.

It's like Las Vegas and you're gambling against the house. That said, if you're one of those that beats the odds, then it's totally worth it.

I purchased an extended warranty for my '04 Z06 Corvette because it has like 3 computer modules and tons of electronics. I actually won that battle, but they fixed about $150.00 more than I had spent on the extended warranty. I have to admit, it did provide great peace of mind.....

I'm still on the fence about what I'll do with my '12 Limited. When it's time, my decision will probably be based on the price...
