Did mine last week and mine was more powdered/small bits, not flakes.

 

Also as a note I have been running Syn3 in all three holes since the 1000mile service.

Not sure if I should be looking at changing the primary and transmission to something else.

 

Yeah mine too...just fine fuzz. The larger particles would have me concerned, are you getting any excessive noise outside of the norm?

 

When you have metal on metal rubbing even with a lubricant you will have metal shavings. Parts wear a little every time you use them. Nothing stays brand new.

 

Just some shavings from the starter gear, nothing to be concerned about. Put HD Formula + in your primary.

 

I have never had quite that much but dont think its anything to worry about. It does look as if maybe that fluid has been in there a while longer than maybe it should have been. Dont want to cast doubts at the dealer doing the service but this is one reason I do my own......that way I know for sure. Change the fluid and check it again at next regular scheduled maintenance (15K).

 

Dealer said it was normal they recommended Bel ray in the Trans and to use the Formula + in the primary
also said some of it could have been from when the clutch came out of adjustment. I will probably drive it the way it is and change out to what they recommended in a week or two

 

I saw about what you're seeing at 1K, a little less at 5K, and just a slight bit of fuzz at 10K. Now going on 18K and no problems. Looks pretty normal to me.

So how does a clutch "come out of adjustment?" Only way I know is if the center adjuster nut was not tightened. A slipping clutch will leave a lot of metal behind. Although primaries will have a lot of metal floating around in there anyway just from normal clutch use and wear.

Myself, I change engine oil, filter, transmission oil and primary oil every time together. I also don't let it ever go past 3000 miles (unless on a trip) and use Syn3 in all 3. So far, so good on 2 different bikes. I have never understood all these theories and advice on using non synthetic oil is somehow better.

 

Looks ok from here.Looks like your o-ring gasket is mashed to hell though.I wouldn't tighten that up so tight(I know you didn't do it)
