maybe a bad battery or ground connection....second a bad battery...

 

I have written a couple of posts on how the starter system works and troubleshooting.- you may find that helpful

It is unlikely that a lightening strike nearby would fry the bike's electronics- but possible ( arc welding on a bike/car with the ECM in place will almost certainly fry it).

basic trouble shooting will show the fault- start with the battery

The battery is one year old but the lightning could have fried it, at 12.56 I would think it would click atleast. I should have tried to jump it like my friend said but I didn't, I just got mad and took it to the dealer. The fuse on the tender is a 7.5 and was not blown. Have not heard from the dealer yet.

 

Was the neutral light working? Did you try starting it with the clutch pulled?

 

Netrual light was on tried it with clutch lever pulled not pulled kill switch would turn ecm light off while it was lit, I would have tried more trouble shooting but I have to work and want it fixed so I can ride next sat. Let you guys know when I find out, the battery tender will go on a surge protector when I replace it!

 

Ya mean to tell me they couldn't load test it for you right then and there?

To the charger you will go for 24 hours and you will have to call them before they call you. Robots.

 

theres a bracket that connects from the starter to the engine case that serves as a ground....sometimes the bolts get loose and when that happens you loose your ground. Had the problem and when I tightened one of the three bolts...I was able to start the bike. The funny thing is if they replace your starter...they will fix the problem since in doing so they will tighten the bolts on the install of the new starter..

 

On project cheapskate I ended up pulling the starter, cleaning the exhaust mounting bracket, cleaning the starter housing, put a solenoid kit in, turned the armature, replaced the brushes, replaced the $5.00 starter relay, built a custom ground cable from starter mount bolts to the negative post of the battery, and installed a manual push button solenoid end cover. All is well now. Cost about $100.00 by the time I was done. In your case I'd bet the $5.00 relay if you cannot hear a faint clicking from the left side cover. Otherwise solenoid kit.

 

Have you checked the battery in your fob? Had this happen to me 1k miles from home. Had the same symptoms and my batteries in the fob were 3 years old too.
