Usually I fuel up at 5 gallons. I don't want to run it less than that if I can help it.

Knowing where I was and where the gas stations were, I kept
rolling once my 'remaining miles gauge' started counting down.
All of a sudden it went from counting down numbers to "low"...
I kept rolling along, finally deciding I had pushed my luck far enough.
I squeezed 5.89 gallons in.....
Now I know the relationship between 38 miles remaining and
actual fuel remaining.

I normally fuel up with a gallon or so left in the tank....cuz by then
its time to take a whizz again.

Here's my thought on running the tank down really low.. I've worked on cars now for 30 yrs and we see people run the tanks down all the time and burn up the fuel pump.. since it's located in the tank and the fuel around it helps keep it cool.. why risk hurting the pump??.. if you know yer gonna need gas soon, go ahead and get it.. is it worth the risk of hurting the pump then it quit on you out in the middle of no where some time??.. jus like people with cars never change the fuel filter.. you should see what we see sometimes when we take one off and turn it upside down and watch what looks like muddy water coming out of it.. I know when mine gets to about a 1/4 tank in any of my vehicles i start looking for a gas station..

Default Fill'n the tank!

5.5 gallons! Makes me too nervous to think I would run out of fuel and look like a DA having to push or park it. When it says "low" I find the nearest station; besides by then it is time for a leg stretch and soda!

I pretty much did the same thing. I wanted to learn the bike before I was out in BFE & puckered looking for a gas station. Most I've put in, so far, has been 5.6 gallons.

It is amazing on the miles left though.. I think it's miles left under "ideal" conditions. Can start out with 68 miles remaining and run into a head wind, or twist the wick hard & 5 miles later there's only 32 miles left.

I don't know how often it re-calculates but it updates frequently. It appears that it calculates not on ideal conditions but on the assumption that if you keep using fuel at THIS rate, how far will you get with the remaining amount. Go up a long hill and the miles to go drops, go down a long hill and the miles to go increases.

Agreed on the calculation. Ideal was a bad choice of words. I think you hit the nail on the head with the "at This rate you have these many miles left."

Last week 250 miles took 5 gallons. Not bad for a 110.
