I have tried, but I can't get 6 gallons into my 5 gallon tank as much as I'd like to.

The most I've put in was 5.8 and I was getting pretty worried, waiting for a gas station to appear.

To answer the great debate! Do join the fun old chap!

The closest I ever got to running out of gas was halfway across Iowa, running on fumes - or so it seemed before we finally found a small gas station.

Sorry, hate to tell you but Dupont™ Corian® works much better. You also left out the most important step. After every half gallon you measure out, you're supposed to stop and do a shot of Jack.

1 Remove the tank from your bike
2 Set the tank on your kitchen counter top (newly installed granite works best)
3 Using your wife's very best calibrated measuring jugs, measure out half a gallon (2 quarts) of gasoline at a time
4 Pour the gasoline into the tank
5 Releast until the tank is full , noting each time how many quarts you've poured in so far
6 Get back to us.

That'd be great

Cheers,

5.54 was the most I have put in my 6gal tank so far. 229miles.

I did however put 5.1 in my 5 gal tank on my 06 RKC

Kudos to you. I would have been on "pucker factor"

I lived out in the country on a farm for years (that's how I made my living).
I had a 500 gallon tank for gasoline on the farm. Free for the wife to fill up anytime without having to go to a gas station.
Yet she still managed to run out of gas from time to time and I would have to go and get her.

She still goes by the "miles remaining" on her car and would not even think of filling it before the car told her she was low on gas.
Sorry if I don't find any humor in running out of gas.

I've done 5.8 a few times. As to the poster that questions why you want to do that, there are a lot of places out here in the west that the gas stations are 40-60 or even more miles apart. One day I left Limon, CO headed west, had a half tank of fuel and the count down meter said I had 100 miles to go on the tank.

Low fuel light came on after 35 miles. Gas consumption really sky rockets when 50 mph headwinds kick up.
