I just did last night what the OP did in the thread below. Took no time at all and seems to be working just fine. Price = FREE!

I have the J&M powered hidden antenna installed that allows an external antenna plugged into it for "dual antenna" (optional) I have the J&M shorty on the tourpak for now. for comparison, parked next to my buddy's bike with the HD shorty. I scanned thru FM stations and stopped at 26 stations. He scanned and stopped at 6. Enough said.

Question: for those of you with a tourpak and getting rid of the external antenna - what are you doing to replace the antenna mount on the tourpak? is there a cover for it available?

I have the Boom hidden antenna and out in the sticks the reception isn't as good.

To all those that have put the whip in the fairing, what cable did you use?

I have had mine for years and I never really noticed any difference in reception. I do like the idea of just wrapping the normal whip inside the fairing. Would have saved a few bucks. Either way, looks better and it was worthwhile.

I have installed the newer HD hidden antenna- the one that's actually powered. I have better and worse reception....if that makes any sense. If I'm in the open, I know pick up channels that I didn't even have before. However, if I'm in a valley, for example, I loose reception. Meaning where I was able to get reception before I don't get it now...or it's to the point where there's too much static. But riding to work on the open highway, no issues.

What TFB said. I used hidden and shorty antenna with Harley stock headunit and it was ok. When I went with my Alpine headunit it has FM HD radio and the HD channels are more sensitive to reception so whip was must.

I removed the studs from the light assembly and replaced with black plugs.
You can also use black rubber vacuum caps from Auto Zone over the studs.
