Default Twin rail saddlebag guards on hard bags on a RKC

I am purchasing a nice looking set of used hard bags for my 05 Road King Classic. The bags are from an 05 Electra Glide Classic and the black cherry paint is a perfect match.

The seller of the bags has offered to sell the original twin rail chrome saddleguards that came off of the bike. I am going back and forth on this ... I am hoping that there are other Classic riders with hard bags with and without the twin rails who are willing to share some images.

And finally, is my understanding correct that if I choose to place the twin rail guards on my 05 RKC, I need to replace the saddlebag supports (the supports for my original soft bags are not compatible with the twin rails)?

Thanks!

I don't know about your original support bar working w/ the hard bags. The twin rail guards attach to the saddlebag guards ( the ones right behind the passengers legs) and in th rear they attach to the piece that comes down along side rear fender.

The saddle bag support bars (black, under the saddle bags that the slip-ons also mount to) will work. Any police RK has the twin rail saddle bag crash bars. Make sure you get the bolts to mount the twin rail bars at the rear fender.

Unfortunately I don't have a photo, but one of my friends has an 07 RKC with hard bags, and he installed the nostalgic guards.... looks very good and is the route I am planning on.

Hard bags will work on your bike. You will have to loosen the bolt on the rear bracket the bag bolts on to and adjust it some by turning it a bit. Also, the bag rails will work on your Road King. The Ultra's/Classics frame and saddlebag guards and supports are the same. I purchased my bags from someone who had the same color Ultra and was converting to a trike. Bags were in great shape and about half of what the Moco wanted for a new set. Just went to the dealer and ordered a new set of locks that were keyed to my bike.

FWIW, HD makes two types of saddlebag guard rails - both are essentially the same except one is built for the Road King/hard bags and the other for the RK Classic leather bags. The ones that come with the hard bags have a sharp 90d bend around the back of the bags. Those made for the RKC/leather bags have a rounded bend...its a 90d bend also, but with more rounded corners that fit with the leather bags.

I found that out the hard way. I had leather bags with the nostalgic guard rails on my RKC. I bought locking hard bags and assumed the nostalgic guard rails would fit since I'd seen other bikes with hard bags and nostalgic guard rails. When I tried to install the hard bags, there wasn't enough room within the guard rails. I checked the Moco parts site and sure enough I need to get different nostalgic guard rails

I just added the twin rails on my 01 FLHR a couple months ago. Only thing that bothers me is the left bag is spaced off the top more than the right bag and looks crooked/tilted at the bottom.

Thanks for that info ... Your RK looks fantastic. I was worried about the whitewalls and the hard-bags, but your photo has convinced me ... it looks mighty fine!
