How many miles on the bike, make sure you check your cam chain tensioners, like you I bought a older 88A motor and it shakes at idle, my 99 had 30k miles on it and the tensioners needed to be replaced, if they wear out and go down to metal they can ruin your engine, the indy mechanic told me that is the main thing to check on the older 88A engines. If they do need to be changed they make a upgrade kit to the newer style, also comes with a better oil pump and cam bearings, it is the screamin eagle kit and goes for around $450, well worth it if you plan on keeping the bike a long time.

Bike's got 44,000 on it. Since this thread hit on some vital points, I'm definitely going to inspect the tensioners, and work on replacing them soon. Looking at a roller chain conversion kit, along with new cams. This is going to become somewhat of a hobby, rather than just getting on it and riding. I got the bike for next to nothing, so putting some $$$, time and effort into it will be satisfying at the very least.

Yes I agree, getting the bike is just the beginning, if what I hear is true about the new bikes and future bikes I will be riding my 99 until I die rebuilding and upgrading as I go, so let the fun begin lol, enjoy!

Exactly, the parade mode or EITMS is supposed to minimize heat to rider. Look it up in your manual it will be on page :149
